Get the Look – Tessa Thompson at the 2015 NAACP Image Awards Red Carpet in Kenzo. She styled the frock with nude Jimmy Choo pumps, a silver Edie Parker ‘Jean’ clutch, and Kimberly McDonald jewels, also enhancing its pink shade with a bold magenta-red lip.
I have to admit, Tessa Thompson wasn’t a familiar name to me (she was in Veronica Mars and the blockbuster Selma), but as I was scrolling through Essence’s recap of the red carpet at this month’s NAACP Image Awards, I was struck at how Tessa managed to wear a bold red lip while still looking super young and fresh. Don’t get me wrong, I love a bold red lip (as evidenced here), but it usually comes across a bit more sophisticated and mature, which is totally fine. Sometimes, however, you want to look less “done” and Tessa nails that look.
SKIN- Get the Perfect Red Carpet Glow
Glowing skin is a must for a red carpet look (or any look for that matter), so I’d start with NARS Sheer Glow, which provides medium coverage without looking cakey at all. If you have oily skin, I’d recommend a light dusting of powder on the nose and forehead. Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders will still provide a glow, as would MAC Cosmetics Mineralize Skinfinish Natural.
One of the best blushes around that’s a favorite for creating a luminous flush is NARS Orgasm. This is a shimmery peach color that’s universally flattering.
Eyes -Windows to your Soul
Tessa’s eyes were kept pretty simple in this look, so I’d recommend lining the eyes (top and bottom) with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Uzi, a rich gunmetal gray that shimmers beautifully, and topping with two coats of a rich black mascara, like Lancome Hypnose Drama Instant Full Body Mascara.
Lips – Picture perfect and Kissable too!
The lips are definitely the focal point of this look and it looks like Tessa is wearing a red-orange lip, so I’d recommend Bobbi Brown Cream Matte Lipstick in Jenna, which would be bold but still be comfortable.
