5 Bible Passages that Helped Me through Any Situations and Why

At times, life can become overwhelming.  How do you deal with the stresses of life? One thing that I find helpful is reading and meditating on biblical scriptures.  There are over 31,000 verses in the bible ready with answers to the stresses of life.  Although, there are so many different bible passages covering various topics, I find that the following five bible passages have helped me get through a number of different situations.

One of the first bible passages that come to mind whenever I need anything is Philippians 4:19, which says “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”  In this passage of scripture, the Apostle Paul is writing a letter to the Philippians.  He was just telling them how he had all he needed and how thankful he was that the God used the people to bless him. He wrote “Indeed I have all and abound. I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things sent from you.” Paul first expresses to the Philippians how he is well taken care of by God and tells them that the same God who takes care of him will take care of them too by supplying everything they need. God will always provide for them and will never run out because the abundant, glorious riches in Christ Jesus. That doesn’t just apply to Paul and the Philippians. It also applies to us. The same God that supplied all of Paul’s needs and supplied all the Philippians’ need will also supply all of our needs, whether it’s finances, comfort, strength, confidence, peace, solutions, etc. He will supply whatever we need and will never run out.

This next bible passage is also found in the fourth chapter of Philippians. It is Philippians 4:13, which says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” In this part of Paul’s letter to the Philippians, he explains to them that even when situations aren’t working out the way he thought they would or the way he would have liked them to, he is still fortunate. He tells them in his letter that he knows how it is to have much and how it is to have little and in both situations he has learned to be content. He learned to be content because he knew and believed that he would get through whatever situation he was in because Jesus Christ would give him the strength he needed.  Christ gives strength to those who need it to help them hold on, push through, wait patiently, and overcome in every situation.

Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You.” Former President, Ronald Reagan, once said, “Peace is not the absence of conflict. It is the ability to handle conflict by peaceful means.”  There are certain situations that can cause a person to feel worried, anxious, scared, restless or all the above. Yet, if a person is able to experience peace in those situations they are more likely to be able to handle it peacefully and not drastically. So how can a person experience peace in the midst of the proverbial storm? The prophet, Isaiah tells how in chapter 26. Chapter 26 is really a song of joy and praise to the Lord and Isaiah sings to the Lord “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts you.” The key is to trust the Lord and stay focused on Him. Then he will not just give you peace, but He will give you “PERFECT PEACE.” The reason the Lord’s peace is so perfect is because it guards our hearts AND our minds and helps us to handle the conflict peacefully. Philippians 4:7 says and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” The peace that God gives is so perfect that people don’t really understand why you’re so calm. It is because that same peace that is beyond understanding is guarding your heart and mind, because you chose to focus on the Lord and put your trust in Him.

Reading the bible photoSometimes a situation doesn’t have to be necessarily “bad” in order for it to be stressful or difficult. Sometimes we find ourselves in difficult situations only because we don’t know what to do. We don’t know what choice to make. We are confused and are not sure in which direction to go. If we were talking about driving directions, I’d say “there’s an app for that.” However, we are discussing bible passages and there is a scripture for that. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs was written by King Solomon, who was known to be very wise (1 Kings 4:29). When you don’t know what to do or which way to turn, it is wise to seek counsel. It is wise to ask for direction.  When you trust in God and depend on Him, He will direct you. He will show you which way to go. He always wants what is best and He never leads people astray.

Although I could list many more bible passages that have helped me in every situation, there is one more, which is specifically about help in times of trouble. Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” It doesn’t get any simpler than that. If there is trouble, God is there to help. This passage reminds us that we are not alone. We do not have to face and fix these situations on our own. God is our refuge, our strength and the help that we need right when we need it.

I could provide bible passages all day long, but they only help if you read them and believe them. When you find yourself needing hope and assurance, just try one or more of the bible passages mentioned in this article to remind you that everything will be okay and that you will make it through.
